The Duke of Edinburgh Award

What is it?

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a nationally recognised extra-curricular award for students from Class 8 and up. The Award seeks to equip students with life skills, experiences and friendships that will serve them well as they make their way towards further education, training or employment.

How does it work?

The Award is split into three distinct sections: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Gold is currently not offered at our school. Each section is made up of four sub-sections:

• Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community.

  

• Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities.
• Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests.
• Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK.

The subsections last between 3 and 6 months, and are logged on the DofE website on an individual user area, called ‘eDofE’.

Each Award will require the students to take part in a Training Day, a Weekend Training Expedition, and a Weekend Assessment Expedition.
